The NFL chose an indigenous painter to create the Super Bowl ticket

Painter Lucinda “La Morena” Hinojos will be the first Chicano and Indigenous artist to produce Super Bowl-themed art, including the design for the entrance to the games, which kick off on February 12.

“La Morena” is from Phoenix, she is very excited about this project and said that for this art she will draw on the multicultural roots of Mexico and the Pascua Yaqui, Chiricahua Apache, White Mountain Apache and Pima Akimel O’Odham tribes.

“I create art in the hope of providing a healing element of unity and human connection; with this Super Bowl project I hope that people around the world will have a dialogue about the meaning of the paintings they hold dear. That’s a beautiful thing to me”commented the artist.

Lucinda said the goal in this art is to unite and enhance communities in Arizona, something the NFL is crucial to doing as people from all walks of life are fans of this sport and event.

In addition to designing Super Bowl tickets, the artist will be involved in the completion of a massive 9,000-square-foot mural in Phoenix, Arizona, alongside Cahokia, a Native American-led peacekeeping platform.
