The Metropolitan Table Tennis Circuit started – El Sol de Toluca

With great enthusiasm, the 2023 Metropolitan Table Tennis Circuit started with date one, which hosted 80 competitors from various Mexican municipalities and nearby entities, with the aim of increasing the training for the commitments of the new season.

The contest was held in the gyms of the Adolfo López Mateos Sports Unit of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico, where an outstanding performance was obtained from the athletes divided into different divisions.

The fair maintains the competition system that is through a classification key, a group system and direct elimination in order to make up the 10 final players from the different divisions, with which each of the tennis players is assured to play a minimum of six matches, which allows them to increase their technique and strategy.

“We started the 2023 edition with a good turnout and waiting for it to continue for the next days, 80 players arrived, a total of 90 registered but the Veracruz delegation had a problem and did not reach it, however it is a good start”, said Edgar Madrigal, president of the Table Tennis Association of the State of Mexico.

Competitors from UNAM, Mexico City, Club Tlalli, Club Ibero, ITAM, TT de Puebla, TEC CDMX, Querétaro, Morelos, Hidalgo and locals stood out, including UAEM, who gave intense matches at the start of the new competitive season.

The also coach of the entity’s highest house of studies, added that the same scheme as last year is maintained both in the competitions and in the awards, which consists in the fact that the winner of division one receives 1,200 pesos, 1,000 the second site, third place 800, fourth place 700 and 500 for fifth place, the rest receive prizes in kind.

“We are going to seek to carry out more events than last year, we are planning an open in which an award of more than 50 thousand pesos can be given, continue working in the talent school in the other municipalities, in addition to opening a club At the Martín Alarcón Hisojo Sports Unit in Metepec, we want to further strengthen table tennis in the entity”, advanced Edgar Madrigal.

They recently opened a club in Tlalnepantla and their representatives already had activities on the first date of the Circuit, the work at the Nezahualcóyotl Sports School has improved, there is another club in Jocotitlán.

“With the Circuit, the idea is to hold one session per month and it is adapted according to the calendar of the National Games and the Universiade, so an average of eight sessions are held per year,” he pointed out.
