The guide to understand the declines until 2029

LA AFA through its website made official the relegation system for the 2023 season and how the amount of equipment will be refined to reach 22 in the year 2029.

In the season that began this weekend (2023) there will be three teams that will lose the category and go down to the First Nationaltwo will be defined by the averages while the third will do so by the general table. If the last of the accumulated 2022 coincides with one of the averages (for example, Aldosivi this season), the one who will lose the category will be the penultimate in the general.

What happens if the 28 of the General Table descends by also by averages? They descend 27 and 28 of the Averages, and 27 of the General Table. While if 27 and 28 of the General Table also decrease by averages, then 26 of the General Table will decrease. In other words, the 2 worst averages plus the worst team in the General Table, excluding those who have been relegated, will always lose the category.

Other novelties consist of the elimination of the system of averages, something that will happen starting in the 2025 season. Therefore, At the end of the 2025, 2026, 2027 and 2028 seasons, the three -3- teams that obtain the fewest points in the annual general table will be relegated to the First National starting the following season.

Finally, it was determined how the number of participants in the top tournament will be lowered. From the end of the 2023 season and following there will be two -2- the teams that ascend from the First National to the First Division.

Therefore, the First Division will be made up: – with 28 teams in the 2023 season– con 27 teams in the 2024 season– con 26 teams in the 2025 season – con 25 teams in the 2026 season – con 24 teams in the 2027 season – con 23 teams in the 2028 season and with 22 teams as of the 2029 season.
