South African Mariska Venter accepts provisional suspension for doping

EL NUEVO DIARIO, BELGIUM.- The South African wheelchair tennis player Mariska Venter has voluntarily accepted a provisional suspension for an anti-doping rule violation, as confirmed on Thursday by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA).

The anti-doping violation for Venter, who is ranked 36th in the ITF ranking, as indicated, took place on July 2, 2022 at a wheelchair tennis event that took place in Belgium.

Venter tested positive for sibutramine metabolites, receiving a notification from ITIA on December 8 in connection with an anti-doping rule violation, for the presence and use of a prohibited substance in the samples collected from the tennis player.

The South African tennis player accepted a provisional suspension, effective December 13, 2022, meaning she is ineligible to compete in or attend any sanctioned tennis events organized by the sport’s governing bodies while the matter is resolved, according to ITIA has reported.
