The seniors demonstrated once again, in the first national master of the season, the great quality they possess and with a balance of three wins, two runners-up and two other bronze medals, they consolidate Soria as one of the national badminton benchmarks.

Undoubtedly, the most outstanding performance was carried out by Esther Pereira from Burgos, who won two gold medals in the doubles modalities. The excellent doubles player gave up just two sets during the competition.

In the mixed doubles box in the A1 category, and together with Víctor Ortega from Soriano, they would ratify their status as Spanish champions to prevail in the Basque event. Both Santiago Martínez and Manuel Acero, both from CBS, won runners-up in their respective categories. Martínez together with the Extremaduran from the Badminton Leganés Club, Beatriz Martín, lost the final by a tight 22-20 in the final third set, ratifying their status as a leading couple. On the other hand, Acero, sharing a game for the first time with the Catalan Elena Barberá, starred in one of the surprises of the competition by achieving second place without joint training. Finally, the last medal of the modality was obtained by Cristina Puebla and Sergio Latorre who premiered the category with this third place.

Pereira’s second medal was in the women’s double modality. She again, together with Jennifer Fernández from Palencia, would rise with a new victory in a national test and confirming her first place in the national ranking.

The second Burgos of the expedition, Cristina Puebla, would also obtain her second medal in the female double modality in the A1 category. In this case, she along with the Binefarense Isabel Domec, she would win all the matches by two sets to nil.

As regards the men’s doubles modality, the classic badminton couple from Soriano formed by Acero and Martínez fulfilled the forecasts that placed them as the first favourites. For his part, Sergio Latorre from Burgos together with Jon Hernández from Bilbao obtained in the bronze of his category.

The only medal in the individual category was won by the Soria-CS24 Badminton Club player, Víctor Ortega. After the effort to achieve the title in the mixed double, he would fall in the final, placing himself as the second national racket thanks to his position in the ranking.

The seniors from Soria are awaiting the publication of the call by the Spanish Federation for the members of the team that will compete in the Nations Cup that will be held in early June in the Netherlands, expecting a large representation from Soria.

The second national master of the weekend was held in Vigo with the representation of Daniela Corchón, a CBS player. The U17 international volante, climbed up to the podium twice to collect both the silver medal in the individual modality and the bronze medal in the mixed doubles.

In the women’s singles draw, the young woman from Soria made it through the group stage with relative comfort, as well as the semifinals where she won by two zero sets. In the final, Daniela did not display her best badminton, partly due to the level of her opponent, obtaining a runner-up position that places her as one of the best Spanish players.

Within the modality of the mixed double, together with Andrés Pérez from León, he fulfilled the forecasts, reaching the semifinal round where they would be overcome by a double 21-17.

Corchón will now have a few weeks in which, in addition to competing with his club in the national league, he will seek to arrive in optimal form in order to play the Benalmádena International in which he is called up with the Spanish team.
