Sledgehammer for Badosa: the Australian Open is lost

After the loss of Carlos Alcaraz, number one in the world, Spanish tennis took another blow this Saturday, since Paula Badosa, the main asset of the Navy in the women’s draw at the Australian Open, will not be able to play the first Grand Slam of the season either. The Catalan suffered a right thigh injury during her Adelaide 2 WTA 500 quarterfinal match against Brazil’s Beatriz Haddad Maia. On Friday, Badosa withdrew from the tournament before the semifinal match that she was going to play against the Russian Daria Kasatkina, and the next day he announced the fatal outcome of that mishap.

“Bad news… During the quarter-final match in Adelaide I hurt myself and after the test results, I’m going to have to be unemployed for several weeks… Sad to miss a tournament where I came with great enthusiasm and desire. I will do everything in my power to return as soon as possible.”Paula wrote on social networks, who had to face the American Caty McNally in the first round on Monday, who will finally face the Brazilian Laura Pigossi.

Badosa had started the season well, with a United Cup victory against Harriet Dart and three convincing wins in Adelaide, against Anett Kontaveit, Kaia Kanepi and Haddad Maia. The one from Begur reached the eighths at the Australian Open last year, a round in which she fell against Madison Keys, so he will lose 240 points and will probably drop out of the top-20 of the world rankinghaving dropped 285 points by failing to defend his title from last year in Sydney.
