Several Dominican players with restrictions by MLB teams

According to general manager Nelson Cruz, this type of situation affects any roster.

The Dominican Republic team is one of the main favorites to be crowned champions of the next World Baseball Classic which will be held in March.

But will the Caribbeans be able to maintain their status as favorites if they don’t have some of their main figures, stars in Major League Baseball?

According to the general manager of the Quisqueyan team Nelson Cruzup to 18 players have an objection from their MLB organizations to participate in its fifth edition.

The Dominican’s statements were offered in his participation in ‘El Desayuno’ of the Dominican newspaper elCaribe and CDN, where he added that the rules of the contest contemplate that the Major League teams can prohibit any player from participating, even if not necessarily due to an injury.

This would go in contrast to what was declared by Cruz and the Dominican Baseball Federation last month where they reported that until then they had no type of restriction for any player from the national team.

Although no specific player of the 18 has been officially named, in recent days the president of the FEDOBE, Juan Nepomuceno, reported that Starling Marte would not participate with the team as he was recovering from an injury.

There has also been speculation about the participation of Seattle Mariners pitcher Luis Castillo, since his organization has publicly expressed that they prefer that the Dominican not pitch in the World Cup event.

Getting those permits has been a bit difficult. Here we know that everyone wants to play”, expressed the manager Rodney Linares to elCaribe and CDN, referring to obtaining the authorization of some star players that he did not mention.

According to the guidelines of the event, the Dominican Republic has until February 7 to send Major League Baseball the preliminary roster of 35 players.

The Dominican Republic opens its participation in the World Baseball Classic in Group D, starting on March 11 at LoanDepot Park in the city of Miami.
