Challenger Pro LeagueMatch day 1921-01-2023 16:02
RWDM hoisted itself to the top of the standings on Saturday on the 19th match day of the Challenger Pro League with a 2-1 win against mid-engine Deinze. With three matchdays to go, the vice champion seems to be certain of a place in the promotion play-off.
RWDM took an option on victory immediately after the first whistle. Ex-Deinzenaar Youssef Challouk pushed through on the left flank and pulled the ball back to the French striker Mickael Biron, who scored the 1-0 after four minutes.
Deinze defended himself sparingly and countered a second goal for a long time, but still had to give in more than ten minutes before the end. Biron made his second of the evening on a pass from Kylian Hazard.
RWDM gave Deinze another goal in the absolute final after defensive fumbling, but there was not enough time left for the visitors to realize a remonte.
With 37 points, RWDM temporarily takes over the leader’s place from Beerschot, which will return to first place with a win in the top match against Waasland-Beveren on Sunday. Deinze is eighth with 24 points.
