After the quarterfinals at the World Cup in Qatar, Louis van Gaal again took a step aside as national coach of the Orange. Ronald Koeman succeeds him and immediately announced a return to the old system at his performance.
“20 games without defeat, that’s unbelievable,” Koeman said of Van Gaal’s performance. “If I could do that too, that would be great. But I think it can also be done in a different way, I want to do it differently.”
“During the World Cup there were moments in the Netherlands where I thought: this can be done differently, this must be different.”
So the 5-3-2 goes back into the trash, the 4-3-3 comes back.
“In the Netherlands we try to play good, offensive and attractive football, although that is often the most difficult.”
