PSSI message to Shin Tae-yong: Work Better

Jakarta

The PSSI Executive Committee (Exco) has received a report on the results of Shin Tae-yong’s performance evaluation. Departing from there, the coach from Korea was asked to work better.

Shin Tae-yong has yet to win a title while coaching the Indonesian National Team. Most recently, Egy Maulana Vikri et al stopped in the semifinals of the 2022 AFF Cup.

PSSI conducted an evaluation of Shin on January 15, or less than a week since Indonesia was eliminated. Technical Director Indra Sjafri said that the evaluation was carried out for approximately two hours.

“PSSI asked coach Shin Tae-yong to do better in the upcoming competition, bearing in mind that the national team will face important competitions throughout 2023,” PSSI Secretary General Yunus Nusi said in a federation release.

“Primarily not only the senior squad, but also the U-19 team which this year will face the Asian Cup and the U-20 World Cup,” he added.

Throughout 2022 until early 2023, Shin Tae-yong has captained the national team in various ASEAN and Asian level competitions. Starting from the 2021 SEA Games (2022), 2022 AFF U-19 Cup, 2023 U-19 and Senior Asian Cup Qualifications, until finally the 2022 AFF Cup.

The results obtained included the U-23 national team winning a bronze medal at the SEA Games. Then Indonesia qualified for the Asian Cup finals which will be held in Qatar this year.

The U-19 Indonesian national team has also qualified for the Asian Cup which will be held in Uzbekistan next March. Meanwhile in the AFF Cup, Merah Putih had to be satisfied with being the semifinalists and have not broken their egg to become the best in Southeast Asia.

Most recently, PSSI announced that Indra Sjafri would handle the U-23 National Team at the 2023 SEA Games. This was decided by PSSI because the SEA Games schedule is close to the 2023 U-20 World Cup, making it impossible for Shin Tae-yong to be involved in the two events.
