Manchester are experiencing a heated city derby in the Premier League. City only takes the lead in the second half, but still loses the game. United score a goal that has been the subject of much debate.
MManchester United continues its winning streak and also comes through in the local derby against city rivals City. With the 2:1 (0:0) victory, the ninth competitive game without defeat in a row, the English record champions and current third in the table moved up to one point to the team of coach Pep Guardiola.
After a goalless first half, the game became much more dramatic after the change. Jack Grealish put the visitors ahead in the 60th minute before United could turn the game in his favour. However, Portuguese Bruno Fernandes’ equalization (78′) was highly controversial.
The pass in front of the goal was actually intended for Marcus Rashford, who started at the top. The attacker, who was offside when it was played, also ran behind the gaming device for a long time, but without touching it. At the last moment he left the shot to Bruno Fernandes, who himself hadn’t been sidelined.
The linesman first raised the flag, but was then overruled by the video referee – the goal counted, even though Rashford had made clear attempts to intervene in the game. A highly debatable scene that caused debates immediately, but also after the final whistle. The referee was besieged by several City players after the final whistle.
“No one is bigger than the team”
After all, they not only had to mourn the equalizer, but also a defeat. Four minutes after the 1-1, Rashford had decided to kick the ball this time. He did this so skillfully that he hit the net for the final result. While the guests then raged after the final whistle, there was exuberance at United.
Without his emigrated superstar Cristiano Ronaldo, the team is no worse, quite the opposite. That’s how coach Erik ten Hag sees it, who said before the derby: “No one is bigger than the team, everyone has to get involved.”
