The last days of the market are approaching and the Portugalete promises to make several new additions to recompose pieces. The last signing to be announced has been that of Xabi Cárdenas. He is a 25-year-old midfielder trained in the Real Sociedad academy and who “stands out for his size and power”, as stated in the club’s statement.

The midfielder from Usurbil progressed in Zubieta until he reached Real Sociedad C at the age of 19. He played there for a single season and then went on loan to Calahorra of Segunda B, playing 18 games. Later, he ended up at Real Unión, where he shone more strongly. He played practically everything and scored two goals with the irundarras.

That made him try his luck with Osasuna Promises the following year, this being his last year under-23. Therefore, he did not continue further. Last season he joined the ranks of Real Avilés, in the Second RFEF. There he participated in 16 stakes, seven as a starter and nine as a substitute. In April, he suffered a ruptured long head of the biceps brachii tendon and has not played since.

Cárdenas is the fifth winter signing of the pitchers after the arrivals of Aritz Castro, Beñat Garro, Xabi Naveira and Unax Álvarez de Eulate. However, due to the seven starts they have made, they still have two free chips. One of them is under-23 and the other senior. The first they hope to cover with an imminent transfer by Athletic, which enters into the Quicala Bari operation.
