Paula Badosa resigns from playing the Australian Open due to injury

The Spanish Paula Badosa will not play the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam of the season, due to the right thigh muscle injury that occurred before the match against the Russian Daria Kasatkina, in the Adelaide tournament.

“Bad news. During the Adelaide quarter-final I hurt myself and after the test results I will have to be several weeks unemployed. Sad to miss a tournament where I came with great enthusiasm and desire. I will do everything in my power to return as soon as possible. See you soon,” the Spanish player said on social media.

Paula Badosa had to withdraw on Friday from the Adelaide tournament, before playing against Kasatkina. He noticed the ailment in the previous match, in the quarterfinals, against the Brazilian Beatriz Haddad Maia, whom he beat after two and a half hours of the game.

The Spanish had been framed in the first Grand Slam of the course with the American Caty McNallywith whom he was to play on Monday, in the first round clash.
