Osasuna dismisses Sevilla and goes to semis

The Pamplona club got the better of Sevilla on Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Spanish Cup.

Surprise in the Basque Country. Osasuna dismissed Sevilla FC (2-1) in the King’s Cup quarter-finals after extra time. Chimy Avila opened the scoring (71st) for the Basque club, but Youssef En-Nesyri, who came on in the 77th minute, snatched extra time for the Andalusians in added time (90th +5). Ez Abde finally offered qualification to Osasuna (99th), which eliminates a second Sevilla club after taking out Betis on penalties in the eighth. With this qualification, the Basques confirm their good season and can dream of a final like in 2005. Already in the fight to stay in La Liga (15th), Sevilla registers a new disillusionment.

In addition to Barcelona-Real Sociedad, completed by a 1-0 victory for the Blaugrana on Wednesday, the derby Thursday between Real Madrid and Atlético will be the other shock of these quarters. The two capital clubs meet in the Cup for the first time since 2015. In the league, Carlo Ancelotti’s team is second in the standings, three points behind Barça, while Diego Simeone’s is fourth. Before this poster, Valencia and Athletic Bilbao will face off at Mestalla for a place in the last four.
