Official: what you should know, format, dates, Copa América 2024 venue in the United States | National teams

It’s official; The 2024 Copa América will be held in the United States as the host country, thanks to an alliance between Conmebol and Concacaf, which was presented this Friday.

For Conmebol, this agreement “will support its men’s national teams in their preparation for the next World Cup through an expanded Copa América with six elite Concacaf teams, organized in the region that will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup,” according to the notice.

It is the second time in history that the USA will host the Copa América after organizing the Centennial edition in 2016, which ended with Chile as champion for the second time in its history, after beating Argentina.

Who will participate?
There will be 16 participating teams in a format similar to the Copa Centenario (2016) edition, in which Colombia reached the semifinal.

There will be the ten teams belonging to Conmebol and six guests from Concacaf, who will qualify through the 2023/24 Concacaf Nations League.

What will the format be?
4 groups of 4 teams each will be formed and there will be 2 qualifiers per zone to later face the quarterfinals.

On what dates will the tournament be held?
Conmebol did not confirm the specific calendar and only referred to the “summer of 2024” as the date of the event. It will then be between the months of June and July, in compliance with international calendars.
