The Texas organization made the announcement on Tuesday. She awarded a six-year contract to the man who spent 10 seasons as a linebacker in the NFL.

After his career as an athlete, DeMeco was hired as the defensive quality manager for the San Francisco 49ers in 2017. He then served as the linebackers coach (2018-2020) and defensive coordinator (2021-2022) of California training.

This is a return for DeMeco in Houston, since he began his playing career with the Texans (2006-2011). He then wore the colors of the Philadelphia Eagles (2012-2015).

The Texans showed Lovie Smith the way out after their disappointing 2022 season, going 3-13-1. It was the second time in as many years that the organization fired its pilot. David Culley had suffered the ax in 2021.

Houston hasn’t reached the playoffs since the 2019 campaign and posted a combined 11-38-1 record in its last three seasons.
