However, James’ strong performance in the exciting game did not change anything about the record champions’ 24th defeat of the season. National team captain Dennis Schröder scored seven of his eight points in the last quarter and was also unable to avoid defeat.

Defeat for the Wagner brothers

Previously, the Orlando Magic with Moritz Wagner and Franz Wagner had just missed out on a surprise. Against the Denver Nuggets, leaders of the Western Conference, the team with the brothers from Berlin caught up 15 points behind in the 116:119 defeat and was even 4 points ahead shortly before the end. Seconds before the end, the Serb Nikola Jokic hit a difficult three-pointer over Franz Wagner to make it 119:116. The younger brother scored 19 points, Moritz Wagner recorded 8 points as a substitute in 15 minutes.

In the Eastern Conference, the Brooklyn Nets suffered a setback, losing 102-112 to the Oklahoma City Thunder. The number two behind leaders Boston Celtics has only a minimal lead over pursuers from Philadelphia and Milwaukee after the 76ers’ victory in Los Angeles.
