NBA: another magical night for Jokic, third loss in a row for the Nets

On the night of the NBA the Bucks were reconfirmed thanks to a great Holiday. Another masterful performance for Joel Embiid, who brought Philadelphia to third place in the standings thanks to his 41 points.

Nikola Jokic (27) had his 13th triple-double of the season (36 points, 12 rebounds, 10 assists) as the Nuggets beat Damian Lillard’s 44 points (32) to beat the Portland Trail Blazers by 122 -113 Tuesday. Denver extended its hitting streak to seven games, moving just one game behind Memphis in leading the Western Conference.

For Jokic this is the 17th 30-point triple-double of his career, which places him in the illustrious company of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird, in seventh place in the all-time list.

The Brooklyn Nets, on the other hand, battered by injuries, suffered a third consecutive defeat, suffering a 106-98 knockout against the San Antonio Spurs. The Nets took the field without their two star men, Kevin Durant (34) (injured knee) and Kyrie Irving (30) (calf), and the absences proved imperative as Spurs star Keldon Johnson (23) had career-high 36 points and 11 rebounds. The win ended a five-game losing streak for San Antonio, which remains just one point off the bottom of the Western Conference with 14 wins and 31 losses. Brooklyn have not won since Durant injured his right knee against Miami on Jan. 8.

While Brooklyn is struggling to regain its winning rhythm without Durant, Milwaukee shrugged off the loss of its star Giannis Antetokounmpo (28) by winning 130-122 over the Toronto Raptors. Antetokounmpo missed four straight games for the Bucks, but Jrue Holiday chimed in with a great performance to lead the 2021 NBA champions to victory. Holiday finished with season-high 37 points, six rebounds and seven assists, while second-ranked Milwaukee moved closer to Boston for the lead in the Eastern Conference. Milwaukee trailed 74-67 at halftime, but broke loose in the third quarter to effectively seal the win, outscoring Toronto 38-23.

In Tuesday’s other game, Joel Embiid (28) had 41 points as the Philadelphia 76ers outscored the Los Angeles Clippers 120-110 on the road. The Sixers remain third in the Eastern Conference standings with 28-16 points.
