The Spaniard, after a difficult start, logically qualified for the second round of the Australian Open on Monday.

It was far from perfect for Rafael Nadal (3 double faults; 46 unforced errors) but the Spaniard erased this 1st round which looked like a trap (7-5, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1) against the Briton Jack Draper (21 years old; 40th in the world) this Monday at the Australian Open. His physique has held up, the rest must gain in regularity and consistency to hope to see far.

Rafael Nadal winner in pain signed his first success on the circuit since a victory at 3e round of the US Open, last September, against Richard Gasquet. Relieved, the Spaniard stressed: “I think this victory will help me for the future. If you take into account everything I’ve been through in the last six months, it’s a very good start to the tournament.”underlined Nadal who remained on six defeats in his last seven games.

Tested, suffering from the bottom, as from the top of the body, Jack Draper watched Rafael Nadal escape, hard on evil who knew how to grit his teeth when his game multiplied the false notes. Here he is propelled towards the 2nd round where the American Mackenzie McDonald (63rd in the world) will await him.

Relieved, the Spaniard underlined:I needed this victory, it was not easy. If we put into perspective what I’ve been through for the past six months, it’s very positive. He was one of the worst possible opponents in the first round, he has a great future ahead of him.” Hooked, Nadal avoided the trap. He cannot and does not want to project himself.
