(ANSA) – PALERMO, JAN 10 – Almost 3 million euros arriving in Corleone (Pa) for the restyling of the ancient convent of Sant’Agostino and the creation of an adventure park in the village of Ficuzza. The executive projects of the two works were presented by the Gal Terre Normanne and will be financed with European funds under the 2014-2020 rural development plan of the Sicilian Region. The monumental complex of Sant’Agostino is one of the main places of Corleonese culture and was built next to the church of the same name around the XIII century. The funding for the works amounts to 1 million 635 thousand euros and will serve to transform the former convent into a museum space.

Interventions on the systems are also planned, with particular attention to energy efficiency, and building redevelopment. In addition, an event and conference room will be created that can accommodate up to 100 people, and a bookshop.

The activities will be managed by the Municipality. “We are working to give further impetus to the tourist, historical and cultural offer of Corleone and the surrounding areas – says Giuseppe Sciarabba, administrative director of the Gal Terre Normanne -, a driving force for the development of the local economy in the name of legality also with the objective of countering the marginalization and depopulation of the innermost areas of Sicily”. In Ficuzza, on the other hand, an adventure park will be built in the woods. Various activities dedicated to both children and adults: a climbing wall, archery, a giant swing, the “human slingshot”, two tubing slopes with a system for “skiing all year” even without snow, on a synthetic surface. A special route also for the disabled. A picnic area with tables and benches has been included in the project. It will also be possible to rent quads, bicycles and e-bikes for walks and excursions in the nature reserve. The aim is to promote mountain tourism in the Bosco della Ficuzza, Rocca Busambra, Bosco del Cappelliere and Gorgo del Drago nature reserves. The executive project will be financed with 1 million 298 thousand euros from the PSR Sicilia 2014-2020. (HANDLE).
