MLB: When will the new members of the Hall of Fame be elected? | baseball 123

The announcement of the election results for the Cooperstown Hall of Fame Class of 2023 is just around the corner, and the voting process is pretty close to coming to an end. With only a few days to go, we still do not know more than half of the ballots, so without a doubt the next few hours will be quite busy, and they will also be decisive.

According to the announcement of the National Baseball Hall, the results of the voting will be released publicly this coming Tuesday January 24, so that day we will meet the new inductees (if any) into the American Baseball Hall of Fame. If there are players with the necessary votes, they will be exalted to Cooperstown on July 23.

This year’s voting is in charge of 396 journalists, who can choose whether or not to make their ballot public. For a player to enter the “Hall of the Immortals” he needs to accumulate 75% of the votes, that is, 297 votes taking into account that 396 people vote. In addition, the player who does not manage to accumulate the number of votes to enter, will have to accumulate at least 5% of the votes (20 votes) to stay on the 2024 ballot.

At the moment, only 168 ballots are known, according to the work carried out by Ryan Thibodaux, a journalist who exhaustively monitors the voting for the Hall of Fame. In those 168 ballots, only two players would be accumulating the necessary percentage to enter: Scott Rolen (79.8%), y Todd Helton (79.2%).
