The President of the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation (RFET), Miguel Díaz Román, has commented to EFE that this body is not “very happy” with the new format of the Davis Cupso he hopes that it will return to a competition with a different system “since this format has not been the best.”
Miguel Díaz, who is in Ceuta this weekend on the occasion of the celebration in the city of the Interterritorial Commission of the RFET, attended by the nineteen presidents of territorial federations, He also referred to the Kosmos Tennis company, chaired by former soccer player Gerard Piqué and that it organized the Davis Cup until it reached an agreement with the International Tennis Federation (ITF).
“The Kosmos companies have tried to change the format and this has not given the results that were thought and hopefully it will return to something intermediate because for our part we weren’t very happy in the last year of the experience either”, he said.
“Of the three years that it has been held like this -new format- we won the first editionhas been held in Spain these three years but, despite that, As a Spanish Federation, we saw that when teams from other countries come, there are no fans that can drag them along as happens in football, so it has not given the results we thought.“, he recounted.
