Shortly before the winter transfer window closes, FC Bayern is once again active on the market and is making a big exclamation mark. Joao Cancelo comes on loan from England’s champions Manchester City, after which Munich have a purchase option.
The decision to steer the Portuguese to Germany at short notice was made after the 1-1 draw against Frankfurt, the third draw in a row. Against Eintracht, homegrown Josip Stanisic replaced the weak Benjamin Pavard, who was willing to change (in the summer), and Cancelo could start on the right-hand side of defense in the cup game in Mainz on Wednesday.
The world championship driver landed in Munich on Monday afternoon. After the medical examinations, he should take part in the final training tomorrow and then start the journey to Rhineland-Palatinate.
Cancelo, signed by Juventus for 65 million euros in 2019, fell out of favor with ManCity and Pep Guardiola, most recently he did not play twice in the league and on Friday evening in the FA Cup against Arsenal (1-0). Before that, he had played the full duration of almost every game, mostly as a left-back.
