A bad night was lived for Latinos in the voting for the new members of the Baseball Hall of Fame that only saw Scott Rolen enter this Tuesday with 76.3% of the votes on the BBWAA ballots, just over the 75% needed to be elected.
For Latino baseball players, the Caribbean born in Curaçao, Andruw Jones was the one who had the highest number of votes with 226 and adding 58.1%. Carlos Beltrán, another of the strong names, barely obtained 181 votesfor a total of 46.5%.
While Alex Rodríguez added 139 votes for a total of 35.7%, Manny Ramírez had 129 votes and a total of 33.2% and the legendary Venezuelan shortstop, Omar Vizquel, I could only add 76 votes for a percentage of 19.5%. Other Latinos nominated were Bob Abreu and Francisco Rodríguez who did not reach the vote either.
for his part the Cuban-American Bronson Arroyo and the Dominican Jhonny Peralta received zero and one vote respectivelywhich leaves them off the next shortlist as they got less than five percent.
Scott Rolen’s Numbers
Scott Rolen’s 297 votes added 76.3% and his entry into the Baseball Hall of Lovehe. This now baseball immortal has big numbers in 17 MLB seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, Cardinals, Blue Jays and Cincinnati Reds. Rolen hit .281-.364-.490 average (.855 OPS). He totaled 316 home runs with 1,287 RBIs and 118 stolen bases.
In addition to the numbers mentioned above, Scott Rolen won eight Gold Gloves at third base, and was selected to participate in seven All-Star Games, plus a Silver Slugger.
It should be noted that Todd Helton, with 72.2% of the vote, was just 11 votes away from being elected alongside Rolen who will be coming to Cooperstown alongside Fred McGriff, who was cast last month.
