La Rochelle without pity against Toulouse

In a one-sided match, Stade Rochelais won 30-7 against Stade Toulousain.

A shock of the titans which ends in a wet firecracker on the soaked lawn of Marcel-Desflandre. The poster for this 15th day of Top 14 between the reigning European champion against his predecessor and current leader of the Top 14 made difficult by playing conditions not conducive to rugby. At home, La Rochelle upholds its law and wins 23-7 against Stade Toulousain.

No match in the first act

There was no match during this first period. The Rochelais immediately leveled up and immediately took the lead after a first penalty from Antoine Hastoy after two minutes of play, following a Toulouse foul at the kick-off. The first of a long series.

The maritime forwards showed themselves to their advantage during these first 40 minutes. Devastating in melee, effective in the rucks, they were everywhere in front of an audience of Marcel-Desflandre always present. The “big guys” from Stade Rochelais logically rewarded thanks to Romain Sazy (25th), author of the first try of the match.

The Toulousains, non-existent during this first act, too often put themselves at fault. Charlie Faumuina paid for too many mistakes in the scrum and was penalized with a yellow card (29th). Same penalty for Romain Ntamack a few seconds later (31st) after a high tackle. Only, at 15 against 13 during the last minutes of this first act, the Rochelais do not support. Three points passed only after the penalty obtained on the dangerous tackle. Largely dominating, the Maritimes return to the locker room leading 16-0.

An unbridled second act

A second period that never really started. Toulouse came back full of ambitions but made too many mistakes to hope for anything. Five minutes controlled by the visitors after the break before the hosts got their hands on the ball, thanks to their physical power.

A second act which struggles to get started and Stade Toulousain which always accumulates faults: penalized 14 times before the hour mark. This time, it is the hooker and captain Peato Mauvaka who pays the pots for his team and receives the third warning of the match (55th).

La Rochelle struggles but pushes and will end up logically registering his second try by Pierre Boudehent, shortly after the hour mark (62nd). Touched but not sunk, Stade Toulousain will fight back in the last ten minutes of the match.

For several minutes, Ugo Mola’s players pounded the opposing in-goal while the Rochelais cracked and chained faults in defense. Captain Grégory Alldritt pays for the indiscipline of his team (72nd) and leaves his team at 14 to finish the match. Toulouse will end up taking advantage of it and it is Arthur Retière who dives into the in-goal (75th) to save the honor. After the siren, Kyle Hatherell scored the third try for the Yellow and Black.

Large indisputable 30-7 victory for Stade Rochelais against Stade Toulousain. In the standings, the Maritimes move up to third place while Toulouse retain first place but are only three points ahead of Stade Français.
