Kick-off for the judo project “Stunning with Michi”

LR Danninger: “The project is an important step in getting children interested in sports and judo with the help of Lower Austrian role models.”

St.Pölten (OTS) In order to recognize young judo talents as early as possible and thus to be able to promote them in the youth sector, the Austrian Judo Association, the Judo State Association of Lower Austria and SPORTLAND Lower Austria have been working together for almost a year: In a first step, an ÖJV was formed in Wimpassing – Regional base created with the two permanent state coaches Adi Zeltner and Matthias Karnik. Now follows with the project “Stunning with Michi” another milestone in the youth work of the local judo sport. Under the patronage of Olympic silver medalist Michaela Polleres, judo units will be held at elementary schools in Lower Austria in order to get children excited about sports and especially judo and to introduce them to organized sports. “Not least because of the successes of Michaela Polleres, Lower Austria’s judo regularly causes international exclamation marks. Together with the Austrian and Lower Austrian Judo Association, we want to ensure that such Lower Austrian success stories are also possible in the future. I am convinced that with the project ‘Stunning with Michi’ we have taken an important step towards getting children interested in judo with the help of our Lower Austrian role models with a lot of fun and variety and getting them into sport,” says Sports Provincial Councilor Jochen Danninger from the initiative excited.

As part of the project, patron Michaela Polleres, together with the national top trainers Matthias Karnik (Judoteam SHIAI DO) and Sven Maresch (JU Klosterneuburg), will teach the fall school and other elements of judo in a playful way. The judo beginner training courses take place in several model regions throughout Lower Austria, such as Wiener Neudorf, Klosterneuburg and Wimpassing, and are held during school hours. The main goal is to use these units to get the children involved in organized sport in the Lower Austrian clubs and thus to make judo known to a broad mass of people. “The sport of judo embodies respect, courage, friendship and helpfulness. In addition to the unique character imprint, judo trains motor skills and mobility in particular. It is precisely these values that we want to convey to him in a playful way as part of the project and thus ensure that we draw the children’s attention to the sport as early as possible,” says Thomas Stückler, Vice President and Technical Director of the Judo Association of Lower Austria.
