Judokas expelled from the national dojo Judokas expelled from the national dojo

Senegalese judokas are ordered to leave the national dojo Amara Dabo. They are threatened with eviction by the National Society for the Management of State Heritage, reports Enquête. But the Senegalese Federation of Judo and Associated Disciplines (FSJDA) hopes for a better outcome in this case.

We met Minister Yankhoba Diatara, who received us with his entire cabinet. We traded responsibly. We were three federation presidents, Babacar Mactar Wade, El Hadj Dia and myself, with our vice-president Nafy Guèye and the most senior in Senegal Seydou Nourou Touré. He said to him: ‘Mr. Minister, judo has no place in the street.’ He promised to seek solutions with his colleagues. We are at this waiting situation”explained the president of the FSJDA, on Saturday, during a day of reflection on the future of judo.

While waiting to know their fate, the leaders of Senegalese judo are pleading for this decision to clear them out to be abandoned. ‘‘We have been here since 1973. It is in this temple, which has passed through generations and generations, that the first graduates of 1958 trained. When you pass the black belt, it is approved all over the world, because it is the national dojo. All the experts have been here. We have trained many Africans. That’s why it was called dojo Amara Dabo, the father of Senegalese judo” President Ababacar Ngom said.

For all this, he urges state authorities to renounce the expulsion of judokas. ”Here is the mini judoka up to the veteran. The national dojo, seat which unites the whole of national judo. We need this temple. Let him leave it for us so we can work. It’s a beautiful place, a museum. We cannot destroy it overnight.

The Director of National Teams even demanded the erection of a modern dojo. ”I ask the State of Senegal to leave us our dojo. We need it. We deserve to be built something better than this. There is the national gendarmerie which we demolished and which we are in the process of building a large staff which is almost ready. The Directorate of the National Archives also has to move; it is certain that the state is not going to kick them out. He’s going to put them up somewhere. We must not leave the national dojo behind. It’s high time we had our national judo temple” insisted Abdou Karim Seck.

Installed at the head of Senegalese judo for a few months, the current president of the FSJDA wants to give a new impetus to the discipline. This meeting allowed the judokas to reflect on the development prospects of their sport.
