We don’t hear much about him when it comes to clearing outsiders for the title, but Jannik Sinner is in great shape in Melbourne. After easily beating the ghost Kyle Edmund in the 1st round, the Transalpin gave the lesson Tomas Etcheverry in the 2nd round (6-3, 6-2, 6-2), Wednesday, in Melbourne.

So here is the No. 15 seed of the tournament in the 3rd round, all without having conceded a single set. Well settled on both sides, performing behind his first ball (88% of points won behind), Sinner left no chance for the Argentinian under the roof of the John Cain Arena (1h44 of match). He was the first to qualify for men on this rainy Wednesday.

Auger-Aliassime got hot

To believe that he likes to play scare. As too often in Grand Slams, Félix Auger-Aliassime had a diesel start in the second round of the Australian Open on Wednesday, before recovering in time, however. The Canadian, seeded 5 in the tournament, finally overcame the Slovak Alex Molcan, 53rd in the world, in five sets (3-6, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-2) and 3h03 from game at the Margaret Court Arena. He will be opposed to Corentin Moutet or Francisco Cerundolo in the 3rd round.

For two sets, he was, so to speak, absent. A bit like Matteo Berrettini on Tuesday, Félix Auger-Aliassime missed his start to the match (25 unforced errors in these two sets), but at 3-6, 3-6, 3-3, he revolted in time. And Molcan, who had already released Stan Wawrinka in five sets in the 1st round, could not respond to the Canadian awakening. “F2A” even finished the match on an excellent pace with 59 winning shots (including 23 aces, for 48 unforced errors). Like last year in Melbourne – he then came close to correctional in the first round – he hopes to gain strength as the rounds go by.
