Lorraine Baumann, 29, is currently in the Top 5 in women’s doubles and in the Top 10 in mixed doubles, in France. She has already won ten medals at the senior French championships in doubles and mixed and is twice French vice-champion in women’s doubles (in 2011 and 2021). Lorraine “fell” into badminton when she was 8 years old: “I started because my father and my older brother were playing. I followed the path. I played with my brother Marin in an international tournament. We were 69th World Mixed Doubles Together ». But since her adolescence, the specialty of this Alsaco-Lorraine is the double lady or mixed. With her coach and husband Gabin Brucker, she still trains three to four times a week at L’Etincelle in Sélestat and once a week at the Pôle France in Strasbourg where she can face 80 young badminton hopefuls.

It’s a family story, my father played badminton then my big brother (…) I left the family home at the age of 15 to go to the Pôle Espoir de Strasbourg (…) I went to the Pôle France, still in Strasbourg ( …) Afterwards I went to Paris, to the national center at INSEP where I stayed for five years (…) I still train three to four times a week today, in particular I have a partnership with the club of sport L’Etincelle in Sélestat, which allows me to stay in shape and be competitive.

His next goals

In a few days (early February), Lorraine Baumann will take part in the Senior French Championships in Rennes. The objective is to bring home two medals: one in women’s doubles and one in mixed doubles. Lorraine plays regularly with Héloïse Le Moulec and Corentin Lecerf. For seven years Lorraine has also been part of the Chambly club in Picardy (champion of France in title) and for a few months of the Swiss club of Lausanne. The young woman, newly settled in the center of Alsace, therefore has busy days, also because she coaches at L’Etincelle in Sélestat and at Musau in Strasbourg. Lorraine is also thinking very slowly about her professional retraining: “It is a physically demanding sport, which can be practiced well up to the age of 30-35”. With her husband Gabin, they have taken over the “Bretzel et Bergamote” guest rooms in Richtolsheim. Also an occupational therapist by training, Lorraine admits: “we don’t have time to do everything”.
