Hertha BSC: Neuendorf and Weber should take over

After Fredi Bobic’s (51) lightning-down as Managing Director Sport, Hertha BSC is facing a double return campaign: the ex-professional and former assistant coach Andreas “Zecke” Neuendorf (47) and the long-time director of the Academy Benjamin Weber (42) should in future responsible for the sports department.

Weber, who had been with Hertha BSC for almost 18 years and had been head of the academy since 2014, left the club at his own request in February 2022.

In the summer of 2021, Fredi Bobic signed Pablo Thiam for the academy, who, according to kicker information, receives almost four times Weber’s salary. During Weber’s time as head of the youth division, he won the German A-Junior Championship in 2018, took part in the UEFA Youth League in 2019, the two DFB Cup finals for juniors in 2015 and 2016, and redesigned the academy’s training and medical center .

Neuendorf played 149 Bundesliga games for the Berliners and worked as an assistant coach under Pal Dardai until November 2021, who at the time – in 14th place – was fired as head coach by Fredi Bobic.

From now on, both Weber and Neuendorf should steer the fortunes in the sporting area, probably at the level of the sports or technical director. Corresponding reports from “Welt” and “Bild” coincide with kicker information.

Hertha, which has also prescribed an austerity course in the executive floor, does not initially want to install a new sporting director.

Bobic, who has been in office since June 2021 and who Hertha relieved of his duties on Saturday evening after the derby defeat against Union (0: 2), has a contract in Berlin until 2024 (plus an option until 2026). The club had not appointed a successor for Ingo Schiller, the long-standing financial manager who left in October. Thomas E. Herrich, who was promoted from management to management in the summer of 2022, took over Schiller’s responsibilities.
