Football player Dani Alves is suspected of sexual assault, the court confirmed

Brazilian soccer player Dani Alves is being investigated for sexual assault. This was confirmed by the Catalan Supreme Court on Tuesday.

“Barcelona’s investigative court number 15 opened proceedings for the alleged crime of sexual assault due to a complaint filed by a woman against a soccer player for events that allegedly took place in a Barcelona nightclub in December,” the court said in a statement.

“The matter is under investigation and we do not have more information at the moment,” a spokesman for the Catalan court confirmed to CNN.

Spanish media reported that the young woman accused Alves of touching her under her underwear without her consent when she visited a nightclub in Barcelona with friends in late December.

But Alves denies any wrongdoing, according to Reuters. “I danced and had a good time, but I didn’t disturb anyone’s space,” Alves said in an interview with TV station Antena 3. “I don’t know who that lady is,” he claimed.
