About Panathinaikos:

Panathinaikos, one of the most important teams not only in Greek but also in European basketball, is one of the most successful teams of the EuroLeague Final Four era, which started to be played in 1988. Panathinaikos won six EuroLeague titles between 1996 and 2011, five of which were signed by Zeljko Obradovic.

Panathinaikos began making 12 local stamps in Greek basketball, which he won between 1967-1984. After stagnant years, the Athens team reached the top of Europe in 1996. In 1996, Panagiotis Giannakis, Dominique Wilkins and Fragiskos Alvertis teamed up to bring the EuroLeague trophy, the first ever European title for a Greek team, to the Panathinaikos museum. Then, a few years later, a new series of successes began for Panathinaikos under Zeljko Obradovic.

In 2000, PAO won the second EuroLeague trophy by beating Maccabi in the final in Thessaloniki with Obradovic, and in 2002, this time it achieved a historic victory against Kinder Bologna, the only championship won by the away team against a home team. Panathinaikos won their fourth EuroLeague trophy in 2007 in Athens, beating CSKA by two points. In 2009, this final was repeated in Berlin and the smiling side was again Obradovic’s Panathinaikos by two points.

In the 2010-2011 season, under the leadership of Dimitris Diamantidis, Panathinaikos, who eliminated the defending champion Barcelona in the Play-off round, despite the field disadvantage, made it to the Final Four and achieved its sixth EuroLeague victory by overtaking Maccabi in the final. In 2012, PAO missed its final chance at the Final Four in the semi-finals, and was parting ways with Zeljko Obradovic at the end of this season.

Panathinaikos, who was only one win away from the Final Four in 2013 and 2014, was taking the league and cup to his museum twice in a row in the Greek League. PAO, who won the Greek Cup in 2014-2015, played in the league final and made the EuroLeague Play-off for the fifth time in a row, could not avoid being eliminated by CSKA in the Play-off round.

Having been eliminated in the EuroLeague Play-off round by Baskonia in 2016, Fenerbahce in 2017, and Real Madrid in 2018 and 2019, PAO reached a happy ending in this lane for the 38th time with the Greek League championship in 2019.

Yoncalar finished 2021 with the Greek League and Greek Cup championships. In the same season, Panathinaikos ranked 16th in EuroLeague with 11 wins and 23 losses.

Our opponent finished the EuroLeague organization in the 13th place in the 2021-22 season with 9 wins and 19 losses.

Panathinaikos’ museum has titles of 39 Greek Leagues, 6 EuroLeagues, 20 Greek Cups and an Intercontinental Cup.
