FC Bayern: Thomas Müller “no longer untouchable”

Those responsible at FC Bayern are apparently dealing with the end of the Thomas Müller era in Munich.

This reports “Sport1”. According to this, the record champions are dealing with the scenario in their long-term squad plans that the 2014 world champion could end his career after his contract expires in the summer of 2024.

Müller is “no longer untouchable” at FC Bayern after his weeks of injury-related absence in the fall and the weak World Cup in Qatar.

The veteran’s problem: his favorite position in central attacking midfield is blocked by the in-form Jamal Musiala. A row further up on the nine, Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting played big before the World Cup break. Coach Julian Nagelsmann relies on other players on the wings.

FC Bayern scored a whopping 35 goals in the new games without Müller, who recorded three goals and six assists in his 15 competitive games in 2022/2023.

FC Bayern: Thomas Müller does not look like a pensioner

So far, Müller himself has not given the impression that he is ready to retire in the coming year.

Most recently, the 33-year-old made it clear that retiring from the German national team was not an issue for him.

“I thought about it. I was also with Hansi [Flick, dem deutschen Bundestrainer, Amn. d. Red.] in exchange. As long as I’m a professional, I’m always available when I’m needed. The national coach has to decide when, if and how,” said Müller at FC Bayern’s winter training camp in Doha.

Thomas Müller and FC Bayern – a success story

Almost 23 years ago, Müller switched to the youth department of Munich and then went through the youth teams.

He made his Bundesliga debut on August 15, 2008 in a 2-2 draw against Hamburger SV under Jürgen Klinsmann.

In the meantime, there are no less than 641 appearances with 479 goals involved for FC Bayern in his statistics across all competitions.

Among other things, he won eleven German championships with the club, the DFB Cup six times and the Champions League in 2013 and 2020.
