Salihamidzic attacks Gnabry – “It’s amateurish”

The atmosphere at FC Bayern is extremely tense after the 1-1 draw against 1. FC Köln. Sports director Hasan Salihamidzic severely criticized Serge Gnabry after his trip to Fashion Week. Now there should be a crisis meeting.

Dhe mood was like that after a bitter defeat. After the 1-1 (0-1) draw against 1. FC Köln, the FC Bayern players snuck out of the Munich stadium on Tuesday evening – most of them without a word. Joshua Kimmich’s goal (90th) had just secured a point for the German record champions. But with two points from the first two games in 2023, the second half of the season has so far been anything but satisfactory for Bayern.

Hasan Salihamidzic was correspondingly pissed off. Shortly before midnight, the sports director came out of the dressing room. “We slept through the first half. It wasn’t good,” he said. How can this be explained? “Good question,” said the former professional. “I can’t explain that either. So now is the time to switch. And start the same way we played in the second half. That we understand that it’s about the championship.” WELT asked: Does he have the feeling that not every player has understood this yet? “Yes, I have that feeling.”

clear words. Salihamidzic was particularly upset about Serge Gnabry. The national player had made headlines and caused a stir in the past few days. Gnabry had traveled to Paris for Fashion Week between the two important games at RB Leipzig (1-1) last Friday and the game against Cologne and had posted photos of himself on Instagram.

“That’s exactly what I don’t like,” says Salihamidzic

Salihamidzic said on Tuesday evening: “It’s amateurish. That’s exactly what I don’t like.” And further: “That’s exactly what Bayern Munich is not. Doing some gymnastics when you have a day off. A day off is there to rest, to be able to step on the gas in the next game. We’ll talk about that.” Salihamidzic announced a conversation with Gnabry for Wednesday. “Of course there is a need for discussion.” Gnabry himself did not comment that evening.

After the Cologne game, Salihamidzic praised substitutes Kingsley Coman and Kimmich; Leroy Sané, Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt as well as the new goalkeeper Yann Sommer would have done well. “Now you can see in our game that there are some guys who want and bring the right mentality to the pitch. Some guys showing they want to win. That’s what we ask for. And what Bayern Munich is,” said Salihamidzic. A clear message to the players.

Bayern coach Nagelsmann says the goalkeeper question is not a question of trust

Bayern have their next Bundesliga home game on Saturday: at 6.30 p.m. they welcome third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt. “We just didn’t come out of the winter break well,” stressed Salihamidzic. “It is important that we all wake up now. And get active in the games. That we play like we did in the last games before the winter break. We always forced our game on the opponent.” Frankfurt is a strong opponent. “We can’t be surprised by the toughness of the game. In the next few days we can burn in how important the game is.”

In addition to Gnabry, the focus is also on Thomas Müller before the encounter with Eintracht. The world champion did not start against Cologne again, coach Julian Nagelsmann only substituted him on as in Leipzig. “Thomas did a good job when he came in,” said Salihamidzic. “I have great confidence in him.” Müller knows the game and the business, he will seek and find his chance. “It’s about winning as a team. We can get started with that at the weekend.”
