FC Bayern is experiencing the worst start to the new year since 2007. Three games, no win – against Eintracht Frankfurt, the second half in particular is a mystery. The unrest in the club slowly increases.
Trainer Julian Nagelsmann does not see FC Bayern in a deep crisis after the three draws in the new year. But the record champions don’t have much time to get back on track. “If you don’t deliver the results, it’s a results crisis. There are worse things in life than that. But it’s not a good run,” Nagelsmann said after the 1-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt on Sky. The games at RB Leipzig and against 1. FC Köln were also ended with this result.
Bayern had played a good first half against Frankfurt, but after the change the guests were the better team and deservedly equalized Sané’s lead (34th) through Kolo Muani (69th). In the end, Eintracht seemed even closer to victory than the hosts. For the first time in 16 years, Bayern are still without a win after three games in a new year. The club played 1-1 three times in a row in the Bundesliga in 1978.
Next Wednesday, Bayern will play in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup at FSV Mainz 05, and from mid-February they will face Paris Saint-Germain in the round of 16 in the Champions League. “In order to be able to play big games, you also have to play the small ones in such a way that you are in a good run psychologically,” said Nagelsmann: “We don’t have too much time before the really big games to get into this run . So we have to start at some point, the first step is always the hardest.”
Kahn is looking forward to Mainz and the cup
The club boss is also critical of the development. “We’re still top of the table, that’s positive,” said Oliver Kahn and then looked at the other side of the coin: “The negative thing is that it’s the third draw in a row. Objectively it is noticeable that there are two teams. The team before the World Cup and now the team after the World Cup.”
Before the World Cup, Bayern had a run and rushed from victory to victory. Now this is slowed down, the unrest is growing. Kahn continues: “We will analyze why we don’t get our horsepower on the road.” Then he reassured: “I prefer to have a difficult phase now than towards the end of the season.” The knockout game in Mainz would come exactly at the right time: “That’s what the team needs now. We really have to step on the gas now.”
