The Dutch coach told how his particular reunion with Leo Messi was in 2017: “My son Santi really wanted to see a Barcelona game. I wasn’t a big fan of stadiums at the time. I got the tickets through the team representative , Carles Naval. Carles said: “Then come to a training session”. Messi was super nice and approachable. We hugged and took pictures. That was, of course, especially fun for my son. When I met Messi again after a long time, he made me feel something special. He has become the big star that the whole football world is gaping at.”

Frank Rijkaard in ‘Helden Magazine’: “Actually, I’m a bit strange and I have a complicated character”

Rijkaard acknowledged that “I’m not a big fan of giving interviews. I don’t really like cameras pointed at me either. But these are things that I feel obliged to do from time to time. By the way, ‘obligatory’ is not the right word. Because like Johan (Cruyff), I also do things with my heart, otherwise I really wouldn’t do it.”

In his talk with Helden Magazine, the former Dutch player for Ajax, Sporting de Portugal, Zaragoza and AC Milan defined himself personally: “Actually, I’m a bit strange. I may have made it as a football player, but that wasn’t entirely obvious because I have a complicated character. I don’t like the spotlight very much. I always have a hard time standing in the middle of a room, I prefer to stand with my back against the wall. That’s what I am. I feel great with that paper in the shelter.”
