EuroLeague Women – Schio falls in the sprint in Miskolc

Second consecutive European away match in Hungary for Beretta and second defeat remedied. The Oranges fall at Miskolc’s home 65-63, failing to overturn the match in the final as it had been in the first leg. A minimal defeat in scoring but heavy in the balance of the group which now sees Schio in fourth place. Beretta suffered a lot in rebounding (44 to 35), in shooting accuracy (especially from two points) and more generally in many episodes (loose balls, shots on time) that never went in favor of the Scledensi.

The match starts with the handbrake on because the two teams make so many mistakes and struggle to move the scoreboard: Schio breaks free after 3 minutes with a triple from Mabrey, keeps the lead with Verona and Keys but then suffers a 7-run 0 pushing Dikaioulakos to timeout. Sottana’s entry brings new verve and the captain also scores from the arc but it is the former Grigalauskyte who scores the last basket of the first quarter which closes on 18-14.

Mestdagh and Zahui equalized immediately, then they played a few minutes of very confusing basketball with many trivial mistakes on the two halves. Again Mestdagh hits from the arc and Ndour, on the counterattack, gives a full advantage of possession: 22-25 in the 15th minute. Miskolc manages to hold on to the orange by capitalizing on several possessions at the 24″ limit but it’s the triples from Mestdagh and Ndour that create the first real break: 30-37 at the long rest.

Beretta has the possibility of widening the margin but wastes countless opportunities and Miskolc doesn’t need to be asked: Garbin loads the team on his shoulders and, with 10 points in 5 minutes, brings his team back to 40-42. Kanyasi equalized and Green overtook but, in the moment of maximum difficulty, the Famila found lifeblood in Ndour and Mabrey while a Mestdagh in the evening of grace put the third triple of the evening for the 47-53 of the 30′.

Sottana tries to lead the oranges, holding a seven-point lead but Kiss’s triple front brings everything back to just one possession. The heaviest basket, however, was still scored by Garbin with another three-pointer close to the siren for the draw at 60. Verona and Keys regained their 3-point lead but then Beretta didn’t score again: on the rebound foul called on Ndour a coach also arrives on the bench. Garbin and Aho are glacial from the line and sign the overtaking on 65-63 that Schio, despite many opportunities, is no longer able to overturn.
