Eddie Jones named Australia manager

The former boss of the XV of England will not have remained long without a job. He replaces Dave Rennie, who was sacked on Monday, at the head of the Wallabies until 2027.

Eddie Jones will be present in France for the World Cup. Not as coach of England, a position from which he was sacked last December, but at the head of the Wallabies. A homecoming for the Australian, who had already held the position from 2001 to 2005, leading Australia to the 2003 World Cup final.

The Australian Federation has indeed sacked Dave Rennie on Monday with immediate effect. He pays for his poor results for the year 2022: only five victories out of 14 tests (38% success). “It’s a major blow for Australian rugby that the world’s best manager is returning home to coach the iconic Wallabies“, rejoiced the president of Rugby Australia, Hamish McLennan.

«We didn’t want to miss the opportunity to find a coach with immense expertise and experience in the biggest competitions. Eddie’s deep understanding of our rugby system and his knowledge of our group of players will take the team to the next level quickly, assures Hamish McLennan. Eddie instinctively understands the Australian way of playing rugby.»

After leading Japan from 2012 to 2015, then England from 2015 to 2022, Eddie Jones signed up for five years, until the 2027 World Cup in … Australia. “ This is a wonderful opportunity for me to return home and lead my national team at the 2023 World Cup. (…) I have confidence in the possibility of ending the 24-year wait in France since our last title global“said the new coach, saying to himself”proud and honored».
