Dominik Szoboszlai showed all his skills against VfB Stuttgart – and thanked David Raum after the game. Meanwhile, RB Leipzig has to worry about Dani Olmo.

Leipzig had a hard time against Stuttgart, the weakened VfB met RB at least on an equal footing in the early stages. But one person from Leipzig was reliable, Dominik Szoboszlai. “Domi feels like it always scores against Stuttgart,” Benjamin Henrichs knew about the preferences of his colleague, who gave the Saxons the lead after 25 minutes with a direct free kick from almost 30 meters.

How much part did the Hungarian have in it? “I have to thank David Raum. We considered whether we should cross or shoot. I said I’ll shoot, then he said I should shoot in such a way that the ball comes down again in front of the goalkeeper.” No sooner said than done, Szoboszlai placed the ball as a bounce and was lucky in the end that VfB keeper Florian Müller steered the shot into his own goal.

Henrichs’ announcement – Olmo out for the break

But that’s not all, after the break Szoboszlai showed off his excellent shooting technique again. The 22-year-old skilfully let a ball that was not easy to control slide over the instep and welded the ball – this time untenable – from 16 meters into the lower left corner to make it 2-0.

It was Szoboszlai’s second brace for RB Leipzig, and he scored his first – as Henrich’s certificate suggests – last season against VfB. “I didn’t have that on my screen now,” admitted Szoboszlai, who was of course satisfied with his yield, at DAZN.

Even though Leipzig’s entire performance against Stuttgart was not characterized by glamor – the Swabians reduced the deficit to 2-1 and ensured an exciting final phase -, the Saxons left the field as winners for the twelfth time in the last 16 games. The result: second place overnight, just one point behind FC Bayern. “We’ll continue,” Henrichs sent another announcement to the south.

In order to stay at the top of the table, Leipzig also depends on Dani Olmo. The Spanish noble technician played unobtrusively against Stuttgart and was replaced by Emil Forsberg at the break. As it turned out after the game, Olmo complained about muscular problems. An MRI examination should provide information on Saturday as to whether the offensive player may be missing the Saxons for a longer period of time.
