The 4-1 defeat at the Bosuil last week had a serious impact on Standard. The Rouches have not had a line in their results in recent weeks, a home win against fellow countryman and relegation customer Eupen was therefore desperately needed.
“Light my fire” was the motto of the home fans before kick-off. They themselves contributed with Bengal fire, but in a weak opening phase, the Standard players did not get the flame in the pan. It was therefore the visitors who seized a first chance and Charles-Cook took advantage of it immediately.
Standard then claimed the ball, but did not do enough with it. Until Balikwisha kicked in the 1-1 on the half hour mark. Standard was suddenly completely loose and went on and on: not much later Zinckernagel already made it 2-1 with a place ball.
At Eupen – which could only collect one meager point in the competition this year – it was about wanting to, but not being able to. The Pandas turned out to be too impotent on the ball to endanger Standard. After the break, Perica – who had missed a huge chance at first – took care of the reassuring 3-1.
In the end, Prevljak was able to bring back the tension, but the Bosnian kicked an imposed chance on the post. The home team controlled the game, the three points would not leave Sclessin. Standard picks up the thread in this way, in the position it jumps to 5th place next to Club Brugge for the time being. Eupen remains lost.
