DFB Cup: First own goal from 48 meters (!), then Stuttgart madness | Sports

But VfB was pretty lucky there!

Stuttgart saved itself through a crazy final phase with a 2-1 win at second division Paderborn in the cup quarterfinals.

Things don’t look too rosy for the guests at first…

► 4. Minute: Mavropanos plays a return far too keenly on his own goal. VfB keeper Müller is too late.

Curious: With a distance of 48.1 meters, it is the longest own goal that has ever been scored in the DFB Cup.

Congratulations on the record own goal, dear VfB!

The reaction afterwards: Priceless! Goalkeeper with a cheeky unfair throw-in

Müller does not look good when conceding a goal, could have gone for it with his hand and risked an indirect free kick. After the recent blunder in Leipzig and recent weak performances, he is back in focus.

Sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth (43): “The ball was played too sharply, the goalkeeper wasn’t fully awake.”

Up to the 70th minute, Paderborn didn’t shoot once on goal themselves (Stuttgart 16 times).

Then there’s a crazy final phase!

86. Minute: Pfeiffer lays down the penalty area for new signing Gil Dias. He lays the ball on the left and hammers it into the corner – not bad!

90.+5 Minute: Guirassy with the Lucky Punch! The 17th corner leads to success. A Stenzel cross lands on the VfB striker, who pushes the ball over the line with his head.

The end prevented!
