CHILE ONE STEP AWAY FROM THE END OF THE WORLD
Chile is one step away from playing the final series of the World group.
With the victory against Kazakhstan this February 4 and 5, Chile takes out the tickets to get to Malaga where the tennis world final will be played.
La Serena will witness one of the most momentous sporting events of recent times, in the middle of the summer season, with an audience of 10,000 people. Chile could once again be among the elite of the world group and that is where the importance and significance of this event and why the eyes of all Chileans will be on the lookout for such an important sporting event.
What is the Davis Cup?
The Davis Cup is the World Cup of Tennis. Founded in 1900, it has grown to become the largest annual country competition in the sport.
In 2019 we began a new chapter in the history of the Davis Cup with 18 teams in Madrid for the Davis Cup Finals by Rakuten and with Spain as the first Davis Cup champion in the new format.
The traditional Davis Cup, an event in which Chile has participated for 94 years when the Torralva brothers represented the country against Spain in Barcelona, is back in our country, this time to face Kazakhstan.
The Chilean public likes the Davis Cup. Older adults vibrated with the final that was played in 1976 against Italy, at the National Stadium. The youngest remember Fernando González and Nicolás Massú reaching the quarterfinals of the World Group. And the youngest still vibrate with that memorable victory against Austria that gave them tickets to be in the Finals in Madrid, in the first edition with the new format of the competition. All of them are excited about the important confrontation in February. A victory against Kazakhstan in front of an important public frame would allow us to return to the elite of world tennis, among the sixteen best teams on the planet.
