Davinson Sánchez reappears as Tottenham captain

Davinson Sánchez hopes to regain prominence at Tottenham. Despite recent rumors of a possible transfer at the close of this market, the player would prioritize staying in the English team And although the last few months have not been encouraging -he has not been a starter in the Premier for almost 100 days-, he wants to stay and convince Antonio Conte.

After three games without adding minutes, this Saturday the Colombian reappeared in the Spurs lineup and wore the captain’s band in the 0-3 victory against Preston North End, a second division team, for the FA Cup. It was his second appearance with Tottenham in 2023, both as starters in the oldest tournament in the world.

Sánchez acted as a libero -and completed 90′- in the 3-4-2-1 that Conte set up at the Deepdale stadium. It was a mixed formation, with a majority of substitutes, some footballers who usually play from the start and important absences such as Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris.

After a first half with very few emotions, at the start of the second half, a great goal from Heung-min Son allowed the visitor to take advantage on the scoreboard. Around the 69th minute, perhaps in Preston’s best moment, the Korean attacker scored his brace and sealed the game. Arnaut Danjuma’s score shortly after the match ended sealed the 0-3 win.

Davinson interested in France

Recently, the English press reported OGC Nice’s intention to sign the defender before the end of the transfer period in Europe. Even the French team would have already asked about his situation. However, according to Daily Mail“the Colombian is reluctant to leave Antonio Conte’s side this month.”

“Ligue 1 Nice are keen to bring in the 26-year-old in this window, as the French club has a disappointing domestic season (…) However, it is not believed that the 26-year-old, who has played 51 games for Colombia, are currently interested in moving”, added said medium.

For now, Sánchez will continue at Tottenham, team that will return to action next weekend (Sunday, February 5) when host Manchester City for matchday 22 of the Premier League.
