Nobody shapes the sport of arrows as much as Phil Taylor (62). But during the most important tournament of the year in his home country, the Englishman went into hiding!

With 16 world titles, Taylor is THE legend of the sport. On January 1, 2018 he played his last professional match – the final at “Ally Pally” of all places. At that time he was defeated by Rob Cross (2:7). There, Taylor also narrowly missed a 9-darter – the perfect game that is very, very rare. The legend had already announced his retirement before the tournament, so it was over after the World Cup.
In his arrow pension, “The Power” – nicknamed because of his warm-up music “The Power” by Snap – largely refrains from public appearances at the World Cup. If it weren’t for the occasional old darts highlights of the legend or advertisements on German TV, he wouldn’t appear at all.
In the BILD interview he explained: “I enjoy being at home. I’ve spent so many years traveling around and sleeping in hotels.”
Therefore, Taylor rejected highly paid offers as a TV expert for the British broadcaster “Sky Sports”. In his career he collected 8.6 million euros from the prize money alone. Meanwhile, Taylor earns his money with appearances at show tournaments, commercials and through his fan shop.
Taylor will soon be getting sporty again: From February 9th to 12th he will take part in the Senior World Championships. Instead of the 560,000 euros in prize money at the World Cup, the winner collects “only” 33,000 euros. But someone like Taylor hasn’t been about the money for a long time.
