Volleyball and basketball stole the spotlight in the CUM 2023 Cup finals. From an early hour, family, friends, and visitors to the event were able to witness exciting and dramatic matches, such as those that took place in the Montejo University College Auditorium.
The cheers, applause, rattles and whistles were part of this colorful closing that in men’s volleyball left the Cervantes team in first place in two impressive sets against Felinos.
In the first, the feline advantage was noticeable with a 12-4 mark, showing that the claws did damage, a disadvantage that Cervantes shortened until they tied (19-19) and turned it around 22-20. The mark was still very even (24-24) until allowing Cervantes to add the episode in his favor, 26-28.
The winners suffered, but enjoyed the final number of 22-25. Third place was occupied by Rogers, who in two sets (25-21 and 25-16) beat the Valladolid team.
In the women’s branch, CUM Mexico lost to Cervantes with a record of 25-6 and 25-13, to be crowned in the round. For third place, Valladolid knew how to come from behind and beat Mérida Rayadas in three chapters. The former favored the latter, 25-13, but the Valladolids pulled out the strength to concretize their glory with a score of 25-21 and 15-11.
In basketball, Cervantes was champion in both branches. In the men’s category, after a tight and hard-fought game, they beat Mérida Rayados, 33-34. The third place corresponded to CUM México over Prepa 1, 39-25. The women’s Cervantes beat CUM Mexico 25-15. Escuela Modelo lost 26-9 to Huracanes, who finished as third place.
