Conmebol announced this morning that the Copa Américathe oldest national team tournament in the world, played for the first time in 1916 in the country, It will be played for the second time outside the Southern Cone and again in the United States as happened for the Centennial edition (2016).
The same it will be played in the middle of 2024, it will have the 10 selected South Americans and 6 guests from Concacafannounced this Friday the Conmebol.
The decision was adopted within the framework of a strategic agreement between the two confederations that also includes a women’s competition for national teams and a new tournament at club level.
On that occasion, the cup had the participation of six countries from North and Central America, with a structure of 4 groups of 4 participants.from which two qualifiers per zone came out to start the direct elimination phase from the quarterfinals.
The agreement between Conmebol and Concacaf aims to promote competition between the teams selected from both organizations with a view to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
