The DAZN streaming service, where Scherpe has been a commentator since December, also posted a story about the commentator’s death on Instagram, but deleted it a short time later.

It was not until December 29th that Scherpe celebrated its premiere as a commentary on the sports streaming provider. He commented on the LaLiga game between Betis Sevilla and Athletic Bilbao. Shortly after, he proudly tweeted: “Still a little surreal to think that I was allowed to make my debut on the mic for @DAZN_DE last week. At this point, a big thank you again to everyone who has supported me since I started more than four years ago!”

Now Scherpe is dead.

In 2022, Scherpe was able to prevail over 5000 opponents in the large commentator casting “DAZN & Indeed Draft” together with Mika Kaul. He convinced the jury of Laura Wontorra, Jan Platte, Julia Simic and Michael Bracher with his talent.

“It fills me with pride to be chosen by the jury from so many great competitors. After my time in Spain, I’m particularly looking forward to being able to comment on the LaLiga games,” said Scherpe after his selection at DAZN.

Scherpe studied sports journalism. Before he was allowed to take the microphone at DAZN, he was already working as a commentator and blind sports reporter in the Regionalliga West.

With Scherpe, football loses a talented young reporter.
