Chelsea break the bank again to get Noni Madueke

Who will stop Chelsea in this winter transfer window? Since the departure of Roman Abramovich last summer and the arrival of Todd Boehly, the Blues are spending even more than before. The American businessman wants to quickly establish himself as the benchmark for English football. And this season, we cannot say that this is the case despite the big expenses of this summer (Koulibaly, Aubameyang, Sterling…). After firing Thomas Tuchel to place Graham Potter, the London management expected the best in the results. But this is not really the case since Chelsea are still in a disappointing 10th place in the standings.

So Todd Boehly decided to correct all the faults of his team with millions of euros during this winter transfer window. After having spent 163.5 M€ just for this winter between the final recruitments of Mudryk (90 M€), Badiashile (38 M€), Andrey Santos (12.5 M€) and Datro Fofana (12 M€), plus the paid loan of João Felix (€11 million), the English club has not yet finished with its major overhaul of the workforce. This Friday evening, Chelsea has just formalized the arrival of young English striker Noni Madueke (20) who plays for PSV Eindhoven. The Blues have still spent more than 35 million euros to repatriate the former Tottenham striker.

A long contract of 7 and a half years

“The England youth international – one of Europe’s most exciting young talents – has signed a seven-and-a-half-year contract, with a one-year extension option for the club, to seal his departure from the Eredivisie. Madueke, a left-handed right winger, becomes our second rookie of the week as he trails Mykhailo Mudryk”can we read in the press release of the club. “Going back to England and playing in the Premier League is a dream for me and my family and I can’t wait to get started. I am delighted with what the future holds, the owner’s vision for the future and to be at a club like this and to win at the highest level.”Madueke said after signing.

If he is not yet an England international, Noni Madueke is considered a great hope for the country. Since joining PSV in 2019, he has scored 19 goals in 78 appearances. He notably formed a very interesting duo with Cody Gakpo who flew to the side of Liverpool. This season, Madueke did not perform particularly since he scored 2 small goals in 9 matches. He has just returned from a long malleolus injury which prevented him from playing more than 18 matches. He therefore arrives at Chelsea and will have to find a place in an already well-filled squad in attack with Sterling, Aubameyang, Mudryk, Havertz, Ziyech, Joao Felix, Fofana, Broja, Pulisic, Mount or even Chukwuemeka. Not so easy.
