Cayden Primeau back in Laval

The Montreal Canadiens traded goaltender Cayden Primeau to the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League on Wednesday morning, a few hours before a club-school game at Place Bell.

Consequently, the son of former forward Keith Primeau will be available for head coach Jean-François Houle’s squad, which was to host the Belleville Senators in the evening.

Due in particular to the success of Samuel Montembeault, the American has had very little playing time since his recall more than two weeks ago. In fact, he only played one period, the third in last Thursday’s game against the Florida Panthers.

The demotion means Jake Allen is approaching a return to play. He hasn’t played since Jan. 7 due to an upper-body injury.

Defeated 4 to 2 by the Boston Bruins on Tuesday, the Habs will host the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday.
