Cavaliers top Blazers 119-113 in Rubio’s comeback

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Donovan Mitchell scored 26 points, Ricky Rubio played his first game back from a knee injury more than a year ago and the Cleveland Cavaliers came from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers. Thursday 119-113 to the Portland Trail Blazers.

Damian Lillard signed his best performance of the season with 50 points, but it was not enough for the Blazers, who chained their fifth loss.

Jarrett Allen had 24 points and 10 rebounds for the Cavaliers’ fifth win in seven games.

Portland had a 14-point lead early in the game and reached the decisive quarter leading 91-87 on the scoreboard.

Lillard’s 3-pointer from 29 feet extended the lead to 102-97 with 7:11 to go, but the Blazers couldn’t keep their distance. A layup by Jarrett Allen cut the margin to 104-103 and a layup by Mitchell put the Cavs ahead for the first time with 4:40 remaining.

Anfernee Simons tied the score with a 3-pointer, but Mitchell and Evan Mobley hit back-to-back baskets that put Cleveland away.

Rubio finished with nine points in 10 minutes on the court. The 32-year-old Spanish point guard tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee going to the basket in New Orleans on December 28, 2021. Before the injury, he averaged 13.1 points and 6.6 assists in 34 games.
